| The Mad Hatter Chimney Sweep Why do I need my fireplace cleaned? Chimneys are designed to contain only smoke, however, when burning wood or fire logs (Such as Duraflame) the smoke flowing from the chimney carries small pieces of tar and unburned wood. What causes chimney fires ? Over time, these dangerous particles build up on the walls, and become extremely flammable. As temperatures in the chimney rise, those pieces are apt to catch on fire; which can rupture the chimney and crack the inner lining, allowing the flames to spread to all areas around the chimney, and spreading to the roof and surrounding trees. How often should I have my fireplace cleaned? The National Fire Protection Association standard 211 says, "Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary." The nation’s standard says that even if you haven’t used your fireplace for some time, small critters and birds can still get inside and build their nests in your flue, blocking your chimney, causing serious blockage hazards. The best way to detect any problems is to have your chimney inspected. Keep it simple... Keep it safe... If your going to use your chimney... Make sure it's clean !!! Why do I need my dryer vent cleaned? Cleaning the dryer vent can help prevent the possibility of a fire in your house or dangerous carbon monoxide gas, in the case of a gas dryer, from entering your house and, can save you money on electricity or gas costs. A clean vent pipe allows the dryer to move the proper amount air through the system taking the humidity out of the clothes, caused by the heating of burners or electric elements in your dryer thus allowing your clothes to dry quicker with less energy consumed. Take time to notice if your dryer is running longer with the same amount of clothes, it may be time to have the vent cleaned in order to operate at peak efficiency. How often should my dryer vent be cleaned? If your clothes dryer gets warm (or hot) to the touch while it is running , and your clothes take longer than 30 minutes to dry for a normal load... It's your dryer vent that is probably clogged and needs to be un-clogged. Most dryer vents should be cleaned at least every two years . This depends on the length of your vent, how many turns and how often the dryer is used. Dryers that have short vents and little usage may be able to go longer than normal before it needs cleaning. In many cases, the dryer vent's warm air would attract birds to build a nest inside the vent or on the wall outside. You may or may not notice that because the birds might abandon their nest for the season. The straws and mud they used to build the nest would still remain and that would block the airflow. So you should also protect the vent opening from birds with a duct cover. Free your mind of worry. MAD HATTER Providing Fast Quality Service from our family to yours at your convenience !!! |
